Bill Bradley's Support

Senator Bill Bradley served as chair of the inaugural World Scholar-Athlete Games in 1993. In that capacity, he made the following statement at the January 1992 press conference in Washington, DC announcing the creation of the Games:

I am extremely excited to be part of this initiative. This is a remarkable concept that will endure, and have a very favorable impact on the participants and even on international relations. I look at Dan Doyle's idea as having the same potential as the International Special Olympics, which have become such a staple of what is good about sport. The World Scholar-Athlete Games will be looked upon in the same vein.

Along those same lines, Senator Bradley wrote an op-ed piece about the World Scholar-Athlete Games, which appeared in the New York Times on June 20, 1993.

Senator Bradley also delivered an extraordinary speech at the 1999 United States Scholar-Athlete Games, at which time he was inducted into the International Scholar-Athlete Hall of Fame.
